Fishing Report for 10th February 2010
KINGFISH CHARTERS, WEEKDAY SPOTS AVAILABLE
Big Kingfish Are Biting Now!!!!
Hello Everyone
The
last couple of weeks have seen some pretty crappy days, weatherwise that
is. For those that put up with the strong winds and the constant sideways
rain, we still managed a few kingfish.
Since
things have settled down though, the fishing has been red hot at times both
on Pittwater as well as along our coast.
The
coast has some big fish cruising around at the moment. Some of the kingfish
are in the 10-12kg weight class and are a real handful.
The
bait to use has been slimy mackeral but yellowtail are working as well.
The
best method has been to downrig the depth contours and locate bait schools.
Once the bait schools have been identified on your sounder it then becomes
a patience game.
These
bigger fish have been on the constant cruise but once the bite begins,
normally anything in the water gets absolutely mauled.
The
fishing on Pittwater has been pretty good for kingfish as well.
Barrenjoey
Headland has seen some action first thing in the morning. The kingfish have
taken a liking to fresh or live squid and the size of most of the kingfish
seem to be keepers. The odd larger fish is popping up and eating live slimy
mackeral.
West
Head has seen some smaller kingfish showing up whilst catching yellowtail.
These smaller fish can be caught with 6 inch soft plastics.
Some of the wrecks along Pittwater are starting to fire up and the last
charter saw one of our customers haul in two decent kingfish one after the
other off a double hook up.
Both
fish measured in at 82cm and 85cm and both hit at the same time on both
downriggers.
Once
the riggers were clear of the water the second rod was placed back into the
rod holder and the bait runner system engaged with only a light drag
setting.
Long
story short, the first fish of 82cm was hoisted aboard after a five minute
battle and all that time the 85cm king just swam with the boat. It was
amazing as this fish basically took no line for five minutes but once the
reel was clicked back into gear and the pressure reapplied “The Fight” was
on.
This
type of fishing can be found along Pittwater for those that are prepared to
travel and locate fish.
Squid
are still pretty plentiful after all of the rain but the areas to try have
been towards the river mouth. Areas like the weed beds at Palm Beach,
Mackeral Beach, West Head Beach, West Head and the ocean side of Barrenjoey
Head.
We
have week day spots available for those that would like to spend a day on
the water catching fish instead of in front of a computer or at work.
