Competitions
Hello
Everyone
Firstly
welcome to everyone that has joined our club.
We
have some great news for all club members and that is OUR FIRST
FISHING COMPETITION.
It
will be held on Saturday
21st of April. The competition will be open to
all members that wish to fish the day. Time of Competition 6am-
4pm. The area that is to be fished Pittwater,
Broken Bay, Hawkesbury River, Cowan Creek and Brisbane Waters.
If conditions are flat then go out to the open
ocean if you wish as long as your vessel is suitable
for your planned journey.
Peter
McGrath and Daniel
Kan from FLYBRIDGE
have kindly donated our prizes for the competition. These guys are
the importers of Walker
Downriggers as well as a myriad of wonderful fishing
products. The prizes for the first comp are some of the best
soft plastics that money can buy (Wave
Worms) along with tackle box etc.
We
will be holding a barby at Scotland
Island at this stage for anyone that gets hungry or
just wants a break and a chat to other members. It will be
sausages and onions and we will be cooking from 12.30
and packing up at 2pm.
A gold coin donation to help with the costs would really be
appreciated.
The
weigh-in will be done at Bayview – Rowlands Reserve at 4pm.
If you are not back at 4pm
with fish in hand then I am sorry your fish will not be eligible
for a prize that day. You can weigh your fish in at the barby
if you have to leave early.
Conditions
of competition are that any fish that is weighed in must be caught
using a downrigger
or a poormans downrigger.
The weight on the poormans downrigger must be attached with rubber
bands to the swivel on the mainline. The sinker must be size 6
snapper leads or heavier or other shaped sinkers to the same
weight.
The
prize categories for this competition are:
Mystery
Weight Fish
Mystery
Length Fish
Mystery
Fish
A
children’s prize
will be given out to a different child each competition.
By
making the competition a Mystery species etc we are hoping that
you all will try to catch as many different species as
possible. We all know that kingies love being caught on
downriggers but there are other species that are even easier to
catch. Catching flathead whilst downrigging deep diving lures are
a great example and an easy way to target these fish.
The
species that will be eligible for the day will be drawn out of a
hat. The 5 species that will be in the hat are:
Kingfish,
Jewfish, Flathead, Tailor and Bream.
The
mystery length and weight will be drawn at the same time.
The lengths will start from 26cm and stop at 1.1m with varying
increments. In total 20 tickets will be in this hat. The
weight will be the first 2 digits after the decimal point. That is
if the lucky weight is drawn at .36kg it means that your legal
sized fish may be any KILO
but it’s the GRAM
reading that will be judged. All fish must be gutted
and gilled before
weigh in and must be of eating condition to be eligible. Poorly
kept fish, no matter how big or who caught it will not be able to
be entered.
Yearly
Points Score
The
club hopes to run about 6-8 competitions a year so a running
points score over the year is required. This also allows you all
to be in the running for a prize of a Walker
Downrigger at the end of the year even if you miss out
in the Mystery Comps. You get awarded 50 points for being at
the barby and a further 50 points for being at the weigh in.
Fish
lengths – FORK MEASUREMENTS-
are taken and categorized. A different formula will be
applied to each species. The formula will be based on how easy a
species is to catch. For instance – TAILOR-
are an easy fish to catch using downriggers so the following
formula is applied.
Fork
Length + 5= Points
Where
as a Jewfish is
Fork
Length + 450 = points
Kingfish
is
Fork
Length + 125 = points
Flathead
Tip
of Tail + 75 = points
Bream
is
Fork
Length x weight + 100 = points
All
other species for this comp will be noted and appropriate formula
worked out. These are the five-targeted species for the first comp
and more fish will be added to our list in the coming future.
