Fishing Spots
You
can choose to fish the magnificent Hawkesbury River and chase the
mighty Mulloway and large Flathead at renown hot spots such as
Juno Point, Flint & Steel, Gunya Point and the bridges just to
name a few.
You
may like to fish legendry areas such as The Vines, The Wreck, Bar
Point or Little Settlement for hard fighting Bream and school
Jewies on quality light tackle.
Pittwater
has a good variety of fish to catch but the pick of the species
would have to be the rod breaking, hard fighting, Yellowtail
Kingfish. We actively chase these brutes up and down Pittwater
with lures or live bait with great success. Fish of 6 to 8kg are
not uncommon and we target the larger fish by trolling large live
Squid on the downrigger around the various drop offs and moorings
in Pittwater.
In
summer we are usually lucky enough to capture tropical species
that venture down the coast with the warm water and schools of
baitfish. The last few years we have had Cobia, Spotted Mackerel
and Watson’s Leaping Bonito just to mention a few. Other species
that you can expect to catch on a regular basis are huge Flathead,
big Whiting, Tailor, Flounder and a smattering of large Bream. In
winter you can expect to catch Salmon and John Dory and if we do
come across a Kingfish at this time of the year they are usually
very large fish –10 to 20kg.
Cowan
Creek usually produces the same species as the Hawkesbury River
but with Kingfish in summer and toothy Hairtail in winter.
